Services

Services make selling classes, tours, subscriptions, and other services your store offers easy. You create service categories with preferences forms and assign them to services. The advantage of using services over subscriptions is that you can easily create multiple subscriptions, such as six-month and 12-month, using service categories without making the preferences form each time.

Add services to product lists, landing pages, and catalogs to feature them on your site.

Site Administrators can create, edit, and remove services.

All components and fields with a red asterisk (*) are required.

Create Service Category

Service categories define the form fields that customers see when purchasing a service. In this example, you’ll create a book subscription category.

service_categories

  1. Select Commerce in the left menu, then Service Categories
  2. Select + Add term
  3. Enter a Name for the category you’ll use when creating the corresponding service. For this example, enter ‘Book Subscription.’
  4. Select Taxable to tax all products in services that use this service category.
  5. Define a Preferences form to collect customer information for the subscription. Enter the Name that displays with the field, enter a Description that provides more information to the customer, select a field Type, then select whether the field is Required. Select Add another item to add additional fields. In this example, create fields to collect the customer’s name, email, and address (only one allowed). Then add radio buttons to choose whether to ship the books or pick up the books at the store. If you have more than one book club subscription (e.g., literary book club, YA book club, store book club), add a dropdown that allows the customer to select the book club they want to receive books for or add checkboxes for each type of subscription. Or add a dropdown to select the staff member whose picks the customer wants to receive.
  6. You can optionally relate the service to another term by expanding Relations, selecting Parent terms, and entering a Weight
  7. Select Save to save the service category.

Note: If you update a service category, the changes only apply to services to which you apply the service category going forward. The changes won’t apply to services you’ve already created.
